Summary
Activity Description:
An estimated 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV. As more patients require specialty pharmacist care, this places additional pressure on the pharmacist to meet the needs of the growing population, as well as demonstrating to payers, PBMS, manufacturers, and accreditation organizations through outcomes data and reporting that the therapies are worth the high costs and lead to the best outcomes.
The presentation will provide a clinical overview of HIV,where we have come from and where we are now, HIV drug therapy pipeline and the role that specialty pharmacists play in outcomes data and reporting to internal and external stakeholders and key metrics involved.
Patient case presentations will be discussed that demonstrate the value and key role that specialty HIV pharmacists play in the healthcare landscape.
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
* State the current progress made in HIV and the future outlook and trends to anticipate
* Define the role specialty pharmacy’s play in outcomes data and reporting
* Identify HIV specific outcomes metrics that the pharmacy should be able to capture and analyze
* Describe patient case studies presented
