Activity Description:
While meeting in the heart of horse country, veterinary pharmacists will have an opportunity to explore all of the unique attributes of what makes a horse a horse and how veterinary pharmacists can best serve this special patient population. Horses are everywhere, even in your city! Participate in this program and you will be ready to seize or create any opportunities related to equine veterinary pharmacy.

Pharmacist & Pharmacy Technician Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss anatomy, physiology and drug disposition in horses
2. State the causes, risk factors, and clinical signs of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, Rhodococcus equi infection, equine recurrent uveitis, and equine glaucoma
3. Identify the drugs used most commonly for the treatment of PPID, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, Rhodococcus equi infection, equine recurrent uveitis, and equine glaucoma
4. Describe usual monitoring and follow-up for horses undergoing treatment for PPID, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, Rhodococcus equi infection, equine recurrent uveitis, or equine glaucoma
5. Recall important counseling points for owners of horses undergoing treatment for PPID, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, Rhodococcus equi infection, equine recurrent uveitis, or equine glaucoma

Accreditation Information:
This is a knowledge-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians.

ACPE logo The American College of Apothecaries (ACA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACA has accredited this program for 1.5 contact hour (0.15 CEUs) of continuing education credit for pharmacists and technicians: UAN: 0201-9999-19-039-H04-P and UAN: 0201-9999-19-039-H04-T.

Gigi Davidson is the former Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she practiced veterinary pharmacy since 1983. Ms. Davidson received her BS in Pharmacy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 and subsequently was awarded Diplomate status in the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy in 2001.
